O'Kains Bay

This is our new place of refuge (8 friends of mine and me). Its about an hour and a half South-east of Christchurch, right on the eastern edge of the south island. TEAN (the education abroad network) hooked us up with yet another fantastic set-up right in between a group of mountains and a 30 minute walk to the beach. Here we have water, toilets, power and internet - all things that seem to be luxuries within Christchurch today. Over the last couple days we spent the majority of our time tramping around the mountains and beaches, looking at more gorgeous scenery (Hopefully when I return to Christchurch I can post the pictures then).

I guess its just making the best of a bad situation. On the one hand we are in an amazing part of Southern New Zealand with all the amenities one could ask for. On the other hand thousands of people continue to seek refuge, food, water and shelter within the Christchurch city walls. As I watched TV during dinner, the water crisis continues to grow as those with water must boil it to avoid contaminates from broken sewage lines. I can't help but feel fortunate and blessed that we have the connections and resources available to us to keep us safe and entertained during this period of national emergency.
