Academics
As part of our orientation we knew at some point we'd be getting a good talking to about our courses (which they call papers) and universities as well as the structure of academics here in New Zealand. If it was meant to be a scare tactic it worked...Basically what I took away from it was that they grade on a bell curve, allotting only 5% of students to receive an 'A' letter grade. On top of this there will only be two main grades in the course including a midterm and a final exam. That basically means be diligent with studying and try not to get too far behind on the readings. Sounds easy enough right...except this time I happen to be in one of if not the most beautiful and extreme places in the world and will be provided constant distractions to see as much of New Zealand as possible. Fortunately for me a 'C' is all I need in order to transfer credit back to Drake which shouldn't be too hard to do.
