As long as I have been in abroad, which has been a total of 7 days, I've run into a whole slue of hidden and rather unexpected costs including close to $300 in baggage fees thus far that I can only hope to be reimbursed due to miscommunication between student universe and Air Pacific Airlines.
Anyway the second thing is that prices appear way more expensive than I've ever seen or was even remotely prepared for. Just to throw some examples out there the local convenience stores here in Auckland, NZ will charge typically $9-12 for a box of cereal, $6 for a loaf of regular bread, and $6 for 2 liters or half a gallon of milk. Luckily for us orientation thus far has provided for most of our meals and given our wallets a bit of breathing room until we settle into our own universities (mine being Canterbury in Christchurch on the south island). I've heard that larger grocery stores allow for much more affordable priced goods.
