Culture Shock
As many know different countries will undoubtedly have various cultural differences. As part of our crash course in "Kiwi" culture we gained some valuable insight on the rules of late night behavior. Too bad in came just one day too late...Lauren comes from a small school in Ohio called Marietta and is studying at Auckland University this semester here in New Zealand. She turned 21 last night so naturally we all went out to celebrate. On another note if one plans on going out in a foreign country, passports are necessary to provide proof of age, even when the legal drinking age is 18 not 21. To make a long story short American "grinding" is rather shocking and surprising to any Kiwi man or woman but could create two completely different meanings depending upon your gender. To put it simply men and women should be careful because there's really no backing out of what you do once the dancing begins. As I mentioned earlier the talk would have been useful because us American's (not so much me) literally broke every rule in the book last night. Who knows what the Kiwi's were thinking but I'm sure it was something along the lines of "Where did all these Americans come from?"

Can you share some of the rules?
ReplyDeleteBasically if a Kiwi guy buys a girl a beer and the girl keeps accepting them then she will almost have to go home with him...in his mind that's the way it goes and there's no way around it unless she buys him back the beer to be even.
ReplyDeleteStart buying drinks Sam!
